MI-5002 – Huipil
Concepción Chiquirichapa, Quetzaltenango
Linguistic community : K’iche’

Huipil made with (of) two panels woven on backstrap loom, with supplementary weft brocades full of color. In this design the flowers, geometric shapes, zoomorphic shapes such as peacocks and letters, stand out. It includes scenes of characters playing musical instruments, evoking a band at a festivity.

On its square neck there’s a machine-sewn hand-embroidered fabric application with flowers and birds of ancient inspiration and made with antique embroidery techniques. The armholes have applications of black velvet, also added on by sewing machine.
